Black Salt, recently opened in Falls Church, brings a familiar name to those from Blacksburg or Virginia Tech University. Founded by a Virginia Tech alum, this spot marks their expansion from the college town to Northern Virginia, and in less than a month, it’s already gaining attention.
While smash burgers and fried chicken sandwiches are trendy, Black Salt stands out. The menu is refreshingly simple—burgers, cheeseburgers, a Philly cheese burger, fried chicken sandwiches, seasoned fries, and spicy cheese curds. But what they lack in variety, they make up for in flavor. Quality over quantity is their motto.
Their double smash burger, seasoned to perfection with a unique house blend, comes together beautifully with melted cheese and their signature sauce. The fried chicken sandwich is equally impressive—crispy, juicy, and packed with flavor. Both are made from scratch, so while it’s not fast food, the wait is worth it. Add seasoned fries and some spicy cheese curds, with a serious kick, and you’ve got something great.
The large, open space offers a big dining area, and you can see the kitchen action behind the scenes. All items are Halal, using grass-fed beef, which is a nice touch for many.
As of today Black Salt is opened 5 pm until 11 pm Tuesday through Sunday. Soon they will be opening Black Sugar, a coffee/cafe spot sharing the same location. If it’s anything like Black Salt I’m excited to see what it has to offer.
If you’re a fan of smash burgers or fried chicken sandwiches, Black Salt is a must-visit. With its simple concept and flawless execution, it’s a spot I’ll be returning to.
