Buford's Biscuits

Buford’s Biscuits is exactly what you’d expect and hope it to be—a warm, cozy spot that’s all about delicious, flaky biscuits. The focus here is on Southern “cathead” biscuits, which, if you’re not familiar, are drop biscuits roughly the size of a cat’s head. The origin of the term might be a mystery, but the concept is well-known in Southern breakfasts, and Buford’s does them right.

Co-owners Lauren Barrett and Charles Screech opened Buford’s Biscuits about four years ago, and it has since become a beloved part of downtown Leesburg’s vibrant food scene. Located in an old home, the restaurant makes great use of its unique space, decorating rooms inspired by iconic Southern towns like Charleston and Savannah.

The menu at Buford’s is centered around their star ingredient—the biscuit—and it’s surprisingly versatile. Whether you’re in the mood for breakfast or lunch, there’s plenty to choose from. The Nashville sandwich, with hot fried chicken, slaw, and pickles, is a standout, as is the classic Breakfast Sandwich, featuring bacon, sausage, or Virginia ham with an egg and cheese. For something a bit more inventive, try The Cure, which pairs fried chicken with egg and gravy, or the Bless Your Heart, combining fried chicken, pickles, and mac & cheese.

If you can’t decide, a biscuit flight with seasonal jams is a great way to sample the goods. And don’t miss out on the sides—collard greens and mac & cheese are excellent companions to any meal. The chicken and waffle nugs, chicken bites coated in waffle batter, are another must-try.

Buford’s Biscuits is open Thursday through Saturday from 8 AM to 2 PM, and Sunday from 9 AM to 2 PM. If you find yourself in Leesburg, a town full of great dining options, make sure Buford’s is on your list. It’s the perfect spot for a taste of Southern hospitality and cooking, with biscuits bigger in size and flavor than you ever knew you wanted.
