Chewish Deli began humbly in an Old Town Alexandria apartment on N Fayetteville St. back in 2018. New Englander Gregg Linzey, originally from New Hampshire, wanted to bring a taste of home to Alexandria and noticed a distinct lack of quality bagels in the area. He set out to fill that gap.
By March 2020, the Chewish Deli truck hit the road, serving delicious bagels and sandwiches to Northern Virginia. Just six months later, they established a permanent location at 807 Pendleton St., where they now bake over 6,000 bagels a week. It’s safe to say that Chewish Deli knows their bagels.
Designed as a takeout-only spot with no seating, Chewish Deli is perfect for grabbing a quick, quality bite. Although there’s no parking lot, street parking is usually available around the block, making it convenient to stop by and get in and out quickly.
The friendly staff at Chewish Deli are always helpful and ready to answer any questions. They make bagels daily and offer gluten-free options as well. You’ll find a few schmear options, including a vegan one, and a variety of breakfast sandwiches. If you’re not in the mood for a bagel, they also serve lunch sandwiches with sub rolls.
Chewish Deli captures the essence of a small, neighborhood bagel shop, just as founder Gregg Linzey intended. His goal to recreate the small-town bagel shops of New England has been successfully realized in Alexandria. If you’re looking for a great bagel and a quick, pleasant experience, Chewish Deli is the place to go.
