I want to highlight a wonderful small-town coffee shop: Half Past Moon Coffee Buzz in Marshall. The last time I was lucky enough to visit, I had no idea it would be my last. Sadly, they closed their doors last month, and while I hold onto hope they’ll find a new lease or location, they remain closed for now. I wrote this review after my last visit but hadn’t shared it yet, and I still want to post it as a thank you for their service, smiling faces, and incredible recommendations in Marshall.
Located on W Main Street, Half Past Moon Coffee Buzz was the perfect definition of a small-town coffee shop. Inside an old home with a cozy downstairs space, it had just a few seats inside. The true charm, however, was the front porch seating, where I would sip my coffee and enjoy a slice of blueberry bread while overlooking Main Street.
The coffee bar was full of creative drink options, and despite the shop’s size, the breakfast menu was surprisingly robust. They offered quiches, breakfast sandwiches, bagels, muffins, cookies, and even a few gluten-free options, including waffles. For something quick, they had cereal on the go. There was always something for everyone.
One of my favorite touches was the small journal left inside for visitors to sign and share their thoughts, creating a real sense of community. Reading what others had written as they sat in the cozy space made it feel even more personal, giving the shop an extra layer of warmth.
Though it wasn’t large and seating was limited, Half Past Moon Coffee Buzz had a ton of personality. It didn’t need to be big—Marshall isn’t the kind of town where you look for a chain coffee shop. You want something comfortable, inviting, and friendly, something that feels like the town itself. Familiar faces, friendly locals, regular customers, and service with a smile. You want Half Past Moon Coffee Buzz.
I truly hope it finds a way to return, but until then, thank you for the memories.
