Located in downtown Fairfax, High Side is a hidden gem that excels in both craft beer and Asian street food. This small venue, with around three dozen seats inside and another eight on the outside patio, offers a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis, encompassing high tops, bar seating, and tables.
Despite its compact size, High Side’s menu is impressively extensive. The small plate Asian options include teriyaki skewers, edamame, pot stickers, scallion pancakes, and more. These “small” plates are surprisingly generous, providing more than expected.
The bao bun selection is a highlight, featuring four options: pork belly, fried chicken, shrimp, and vegan tofu. In addition to the shareable small plates, High Side offers about a dozen larger dishes, including fried chicken, noodles, and fried rice. Each dish is vibrant and rich in flavor, making every bite enjoyable.
The service is excellent, with a friendly and easy-going staff that enhances the laid-back vibe. High Side also offers great food deals during happy hour from 4 to 7 PM, Tuesday to Thursday.
Overall, High Side is a great place to relax, meet up with friends, and enjoy some craft beer. Even if you’re not into beer, the impressive food menu is more than enough reason to visit.
