Le Vingt Trois Cafe & Bakery

In an age where online information, including pictures, reviews, and social media, often eliminates the element of surprise when trying out a new restaurant, my visit to Le Vingt Trois Cafe & Bakery in Herndon proved to be refreshingly unexpected. Prior to my visit, my knowledge was limited to the cafe’s location and the assumption, based on its name, of some French influence. However, from the moment I stepped inside, it became evident that this establishment was truly unique.

Tucked away in a business park, the unassuming exterior belies the charming decor within. Owner Mary Achi, an interior designer by trade, seamlessly combined her passion for baking with her design expertise, resulting in a culinary and aesthetic delight. The morning sunlight streaming through the expansive windows further enhanced the cozy ambiance, setting the stage for an enjoyable experience.

As I settled into one of the plush chairs, intending to indulge in a simple coffee and pastry, I found myself overwhelmed by the array of tantalizing options before me. From homemade muffins and croissants to decadent blondies and tarts, each offering seemed more irresistible than the last. For those seeking heartier fare, the extensive sandwich menu boasts classic French delicacies like croque monsieur, generously smothered in béchamel sauce, as well as an assortment of baguette sandwiches featuring chicken pesto, roast beef, ham, falafel, and salmon—all expertly crafted to satisfy diverse palates.

Despite the impressive variety, Le Vingt Trois Cafe & Bakery does not compromise on quality. From their homemade cakes, available both whole and by the slice, to the fresh salads crafted with locally sourced ingredients, every item reflects a commitment to excellence.

Though my initial intention was a simple coffee break, I found myself immersed in the ambiance of this charming French cafe—a hidden gem catering to breakfast, lunch, and every craving in between. While dinner is not an option, as the cafe closes at 4:00 pm on weekdays and 2:00 pm on Saturdays, it remains a must-visit destination for anyone craving authentic French flavors without the need for a transatlantic flight.

For those in search of delectable French sandwiches, irresistible pastries, or simply a temporary escape to a Parisian-inspired oasis, Le Vingt Trois Cafe & Bakery comes highly recommended.
