Malaysian Kopitiam

Malaysian food isn’t common in Northern Virginia. In fact, it’s extremely hard to come by, which is what makes Malaysian Kopitiam such a treat. Located in the Sully Station Shopping Center off Westfield Blvd near Route 28, this restaurant offers a relaxed atmosphere paired with quality service. While the ambiance is pleasant, the real reason to visit is the food.

Malaysian cuisine often gets grouped with Thai or Indonesian fare, but it’s more accurately a mixture of Chinese and Indian influences, creating unique and flavorful dishes. Owners Leslie and Penny, originally from Ipoh, the capital city of Perak, have brought these traditional Malaysian dishes to Northern Virginia, and they do not disappoint.

The menu is packed with plenty of rice and noodle dishes, and for those who may not be accustomed to some of the heat, it’s helpfully divided into spicy and non-spicy options. If you’re new to Malaysian cuisine, I highly recommend their lunch specials. Available on weekdays from 11 am to 2:30 pm, they offer fantastic deals on some of their most popular dishes, making it the perfect opportunity to give it a try.

If you enjoy Asian food like Thai or Indonesian cuisine, I’m confident you’ll enjoy Malaysian too. Give Malaysian Kopitiam a visit and discover why Northern Virginia needs more of this incredible cuisine.
