Mama Tigre

Years ago, at the corner of Maple and Nutley in Vienna, there was a well-loved Mexican restaurant called Tequila Grande. For years, it was a go-to spot for lunch or dinner. Since then, they’ve moved a bit down the street to Oakton, just off Chain Bridge Rd (123) near I-66. With the move came a new name—Mama Tigre—a new, modern dining room, a large bar, and a completely revamped menu.

The evolution of this restaurant is thanks to Chef and owner Renu Prakash. With over three decades of culinary expertise, she has brought something fresh to the table: a fusion of traditional Mexican cuisine with her Indian heritage. This inventive blend of flavors has earned Mama Tigre a devoted following, with diners falling in love with its vibrant and unique menu.

Fusion cuisine isn’t widespread in Northern Virginia, but Mama Tigre’s creative approach—dubbed “Mexican Remixed”—is making waves. By combining the bold, rich flavors of Mexican and Indian cuisine, Chef Prakash has created something truly special.

If you’re a fan of either Mexican or Indian food, you’ll find a lot to love here. Familiar Mexican dishes like queso dip, quesadillas, fajitas, burritos, and tacos are all available, but with a twist. Think marsala queso, butter chicken quesadillas, tikka fajitas, and burritos packed with butter chicken—classic Mexican favorites elevated by Indian spices and flavors.

The open, airy dining room and large bar make Mama Tigre an excellent spot for a family dinner or casual night out. The extensive menu is filled with options that burst with flavor, ensuring there’s always something new to try.

For those craving great Mexican food, rich Indian flavors, or a memorable fusion of both, Mama Tigre is a must-try dining experience in the area.
