The Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria continues to add more great restaurants, giving Northern Virginians more reasons to eat out. Matt and Tony's All Day Kitchen + Bar doesn't just add to the great food scene, it elevates it. Opened since March of 2022, this place has been near the top of everyone's list for best brunches in Northern Virginia. I highly recommend trying their brunch and I also recommend going for breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well. In fact, you can pretty much get any meal whenever you want; they serve much of their entire menu all day. For example, their dinner menu includes "Brunch at Night" items. So, whatever you're in the mood for, they offer it, like lamb burger, chicken & waffles, salad, french toast, and so much more. Matt and Tony's has you covered. The interesting menu leaves you wanting to have breakfast and dinner all at once. Surprisingly, with all the great menu options what they are most proud of is their rye bread. I know that sounds unusual but it's the origin story of the restaurant. Owner Matt Sloan's grandfather, Tony, was a baker and candy maker. He made a rye bread so good president that John F. Kennedy had loaves shipped to the White House. The story is on their website. So Matt continues his grandfather's tradition by including rye bread, using rye croutons in salads, and rye patty melts. I think it's a wonderful ode to his grandfather's legacy.
It is not a big restaurant, so getting a table might be a bit tricky; reservations are encouraged. A fair amount of outside seating when the weather is nice does help, of course. I was really impressed with the food and the atmosphere of the restaurant. Great menu, relaxed vibe, and I can't forget to mention the service. Friendly and helpful. Everyone I talked to was smiling and in a wonderful mood. It really made the entire experience a great meal. There is so much I could say about Matt and Tony's - I am hoping you give it a try because you really should just experience it yourself. Whether you want brunch, dinner or anything else, Matt and Tony’s will deliver on whatever you crave. I hope to get back soon to try so much more of what they have to offer.
