To say I was surprised by Mex-Mart & Deli would be an understatement. The moment you walk in, you’re met with an unusual space. It feels more like a small market, with a couple of aisles lined mostly with soda, a few tables and chairs, and a fridge stocked with drinks. At first glance, it doesn’t seem like much, but head to the far back, and you’ll find a counter with a menu overhead for ordering.
Located off Route 50, near the border of Chantilly and Ashburn, Mex-Mart is tucked away in a small plaza (Gum Spring Village Center) with plenty of parking. It’s not visible from the main road, but the journey to find it is well worth it.
The menu is surprisingly large for such a modest kitchen. They offer a variety of breakfast items, including burritos, tacos, chorizo, eggs, and much more. If you’re there for lunch or dinner, you’ll find an abundance of tacos, burritos, tortas, pupusas, and entrees. For the size of the place, it’s remarkable how much they manage to offer.
I tried a selection of tacos, wanting to sample different options, and was blown away. The flavors were incredible—authentic and rich, served on great tortillas. As I sat enjoying each bite, I noticed the steady stream of locals coming in for to-go orders, which speaks volumes about the place. It’s clearly a well-kept secret among those who live nearby; they know Mex-Mart is the go-to spot for amazing Mexican food.
While the food is the main attraction, the service is equally worth noting. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always had a smile. It really added to the overall experience.
If you’re in the area, Mex-Mart & Deli is a must-visit. Quick, easy, and absolutely delicious, with great people serving fantastic food—what more could you ask for?
