Moo Thru, now with their newest location in Herndon, has expanded to six fantastic ice cream shops and even boasts an ice cream truck. From Charlottesville in the south to Hillsboro in the north, Moo Thru’s reach is impressive.
Founded by dairy farmer Ken Smith in June 2010, Moo Thru has grown significantly over the past decade and a half. Smith’s background and family history in dairy farming, spanning generations in Fauquier County, ensure that the milk used in their ice cream is of the highest quality. All their ice cream is handmade in Remington, Virginia, using only local and fresh ingredients. The creamy, homemade, slow-churned ice cream reflects this commitment to quality and freshness.
Moo Thru’s team of “ice cream scientists” constantly innovates, creating new flavors while maintaining fan favorites. They also offer nondairy and sugar-free options, catering to a wide range of dietary preferences. The variety of offerings includes scoops, shakes, sundaes, banana splits, soft serve, and even fresh milk by the half gallon. The milk is so good that it might spoil you for store-bought options.
In 2024, Moo Thru made it to the finals of Northern Virginia Magazine’s annual Ice Cream Wars contest, a testament to the quality of their ice cream. The new Herndon location is a welcome addition, featuring a great space, friendly staff, and high-quality ice cream. An added bonus is the attached coffee shop, Old Town Coffee, which offers a full coffee bar in a comfortable setting, perfect for working or relaxing.
With a user-friendly app, ordering and paying for your favorite Moo Thru treats has never been easier. Moo Thru’s dedication to high-quality ingredients and community love makes it a standout destination for ice cream lovers. If you appreciate good ice cream, you’ll love Moo Thru.
