If you search for bakeries in Northern Virginia online, Red Truck Bakery will undoubtedly appear on numerous lists, spanning the entire state and even the country. Presidents, celebrities, and critics have adorned the walls of this charming Marshall, Virginia bakery with their quotes. Regarded as one of the nation’s top small-town bakeries, it lives up to the hype with a plethora of awards. I approached it with high expectations, and I wasn’t disappointed. Despite its widespread acclaim, Red Truck Bakery maintains a delightful small-town ambiance. From homemade pastries, muffins, and cookies to daily full pies, their kitchen churns out delectable treats. Ample seating and large front windows invite the morning sun, creating an inviting atmosphere. While Marshall may be a bit out of the way for most Northern Virginians—about 45 minutes to an hour from the beltway—it’s well worth the drive. Just off the I-66 exit, it’s a convenient stop for travelers. If you aren't able to make it to Marshall, Red Truck also ships many products nation wide. Look on their website or Gold Belly for all their shippable items.
Last year, founder Brian Noyes passed the torch to the owners of Field & Main, an acclaimed restaurant across the street, who just so happen to be Brian’s in-laws, keeping it a family affair. With this seamless transition, I anticipate even greater things from Red Truck Bakery in the future. Though it may not be on your usual route, if you find yourself near the Marshall exit on I-66 (Winchester Road), take a few minutes to visit. Whether it’s for a coffee, cinnamon roll, pie, or even a cookbook, I guarantee you won’t regret it. I, for one, eagerly await my next visit.
