Taqueria Cancun

A mere two-mile stretch of Falls Church’s Lee Hwy is home to three of the best taco places in all Northern Virginia. Each boasts its own unique charm, creating a taco trifecta. Wild Tacoz, La Tingeria, and Taqueria Cancun make up the trio of taco places of Falls Church.  My recommendation, trying all three and decide for yourself which is best.

Today we’re talking about Taqueria Cancun. Located in Merrifalls Plaza, between Merrifield and Falls Church, just east of I-495, Taqueria Cancun is not easy to see from the street and the sign on the marquee says “Tacos Cancun.”  But, I promise, it’s there. Their extremely small footprint allows for just a few tables. It’s mostly a takeout restaurant but if you come at the right time, you will be able to snag one of their 6 tables.

Taqueria Cancun has a big menu for such a small restaurant, using most of the space for the kitchen. Plenty of protein options for tacos, quesadillas, burritos, and the usual suspects.  Also, they offer specialty tacos and dinner platters with a good amount of food.  Fresh chips and homemade salsas to snack on before your food arrives always hits the spot. There’s a lot of birria options on the menu, which are becoming a much more popular option lately. With opening hours 10:30 am to 9:00 pm seven days a week, you’ll have plenty of time to satisfy your Mexican food cravings.  Plenty of parking in the plaza, so no need to worry about that. The only problem you’ll have is what to order.  Or, if you’re like me, you’ll get way too much.  But I’m really glad I did.

Also I’d like to mention, if you have room left and want something sweet, right next door is Cristi’s Bakery.  Located inside the 7 Market convenience store, this bakery has a very large selection of baked goods for great prices. It’s definitely worth mentioning.  Pastries, donuts, cakes, parfaits, to name just a few, are on their extensive bakery menu.
