The Mixx Delight

The Tran sisters didn’t take the traditional route to get where they are. Starting in the Philippines, then Texas, California, and ending up in Northern Virginia. Their culinary journey was just as unusual. Phi Tran, a former dental surgeon, was drawn into the Nova food world via a food truck. Some may be familiar with New Gourmet Delight or their second truck, Sweet Gourmet Delight, which have both become staples in the food truck caravan of Northern Virginia. The success of the trucks and their catering company led Phi and her sisters Loan and Nancy to the next logical step of opening their own restaurant.

Located in the Wolftrap Shopping Center on the east side of Main St. Vienna, they take full advantage of the small space they occupy. Next to another wonderful restaurant, Clarity, The Mixx Delight offers delightful sandwiches and treats from both their trucks. Blending the best of both worlds, they have created a simple yet creative menu. Drawing from their roots, they offer many traditional cafe items with a Vietnamese twist. The famous Banh Mi is served in panini style, adding a wonderful toasted element. Pork belly and Bulgogi can be found on the menu in tacos or paninis, not to mention crispy fries and tater tots on the side. If you’re able to visit on a Friday, I highly recommend trying the fried chicken sandwich, a Friday-only special. There’s plenty to offer for anyone looking to enjoy lunch or a snack. While the food is great, the first thing that catches your eye when you walk in are the desserts. Made in-house, they offer cookies, brownies, and tarts in many flavors, not to mention the array of cakes on display. The loaf cake shows a dozen or so flavor and frosting combinations, making it the perfect treat to end a delicious meal.

The Trans have done an excellent job turning their food trucks into a charming cafe. You’ll still see the food trucks on the road, so next time you need one at an event, be sure to give them a call. It may have taken them many twists and turns to get to Northern Virginia, but we’re glad they’re here. If you’re near Vienna, be sure to check them out. When you see pictures, the cakes will draw you in, but everything else will keep you coming back.
